I realize I’ve been MIA lately, but with my busy season upon me I feel like I’m just treading water and waiting for the big storm to hit. Thankfully I have the following fun activities to look forward to in the next couple of weeks…along with the arrival of Spring of course!
- My first official wedding dress appointment (My ultimate dream shopping experience!)
- Nick and I begin filming our “Save the Date” video so I’m hoping for all of these gorgeous trees and flowers to bloom. Fingers crossed!
- Ladies’ Weekend (including dress appointment mentioned above, yummy dinner at The Gage, afternoon tea at the Drake, plenty of shopping, and lots of giggles with my mom, my best friend, and her mom)
- Engagement Party #2 (Family Edition) - Now the real question is…what do I wear?
So much to look forward to, but such little time to actually get excited for it. Wedding season has officially begun, folks!
Since I have had my same pair of glasses since high school I have decided that it’s time to spruce up my spring wardrobe (and all wardrobes thereafter) with a new pair. I need help though! For those of you who have purchased glasses in the Chicago area, where did you go? Who had the best selection / price?
I’m thinking that I like this style or something similar….
Hi! I'm going to be visiting Chicago next weekend. What are some of your favorite places in your city?
Well, first of all, the weather is finally starting to turn around in Chicago so you’re visiting at a great time. Depending on where you are staying in the city, I can offer up a few of my favorite places / restaurants, but here is a general overview…
-Downtown / Magnificent Mile: There is plenty of shopping of course, but you might want to head a bit further south and check out the Art Institute (they have a new modern wing that just opened last year which is worth checking out) and while you’re there you can walk around and explore Millennium Park & Grant Park. I also really love the view from the museum campus which emcompasses Soldier Field, the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium. It’s off the beaten path (and not located off of the El train system), but worth a look on a nice day. There aren’t a ton of restaurants that wow me in the downtown area so I would recommend branching out and checking out any of the following neighborhoods for some great food and drinks…
Wicker Park - Absolutely love The Violet Hour! It’s handcrafted cocktails and the ambiance is amazing (think speakeasy / Alice in Wonderland - high backed chairs & only lit by candlelight). If you’re looking for something a bit more casual you can try Feast which is a delicious restaurant with a great seasonal menu. There is also Piece which is a great pizza / beer bar that is usually packed full of 20 - 30 somethings.
Lincoln Park - Yes, it’s true. This area is typically filled with college students, but there are a few gems in this neighborhood that I think would be worth checking out. First, I love the Athenian Room which is a great Greek restaurant and if the weather is nice enough you can sit outside. Right down the street is Marquee Lounge which has a great beer selection. Finally, I highly suggest checking out The Burger Bar if you’re into that sorta thing.
West Loop - This entire neighborhood is full of fantastic restaurants if you are looking for something a bit different. A few of my favorites are The Girl & the Goat (although reservations are impossible to get!), Maude’s Liquor Bar, Blackbird, Parthenon (more greek food!), and West End (a fun sports bar with fantastic food and a great place to watch a game).
A few other restaurant highlights: Longman & Eagle (Logan Square), Carnivale (near West Loop), Quartino’s (near Magnificent Mile), & Wishbone (amazing brunch!). Can you tell I love to eat?!
Hope you have a great time visiting the city and I hope some of these suggestions will be helpful. Have fun!
P.S. If the weather is really nice (and slightly warm) I would also suggest wandering down to the North Ave. beach or Oak St. beach where you can walk the path along Lake Michigan. It’s gorgeous this time of year!
